Marilyn’s Latest Cover Stories in the US and Australia

The True Story of Marilyn Monroe is a new magazine special from A360 Media, for readers in the US. The cover image is a colourised version of a shot from Marilyn’s 1952 sitting with photographer Frank Powolny, which would inspire pop artist Andy Warhol a decade later.

The subtitle ‘true story’ may be a little optimistic, however, as the second page includes a fake photo (see here), and the back cover features a fake quote! Overall, though, the text is quite well-written, and there’s a good selection of photos (a few are colourised.)

Meanwhile in Australia, Marilyn graces the cover of another magazine special, Issue #18 in the ‘Icons’ series from Australian Women’s Weekly,. Featuring a glamorous 1953 portrait by Frank Powolny, it’s her third cover story since the series began in 2019 – and inside, there’s an 8-page article, ‘My Friend Marilyn,’ written for the magazine by Hollywood costumer Travilla in 1969. For readers outside Australia, copies can be found on eBay.
