Across the Canadian border, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is showing at the Fox Theatre in Toronto on Sunday, April 26 at 12:45 pm; and again on Monday, April 27 at 7 pm.
“Lorelei Lee (Marilyn Monroe) is a showgirl engaged to be married to the wealthy Gus Esmond (Tommy Noonan), much to the disapproval of Gus’ rich father, Esmond Sr., who thinks that Lorelei is just a gold digger.
When Lorelei goes on a cruise accompanied only by her best friend, Dorothy Shaw (Jane Russell), Esmond Sr. hires Ernie Malone (Elliott Reid), a private detective, to follow her … Many musical and romantic hijinks ensue as Monroe and Russell bring the goddess energy that leaves all of the fellas on board frazzled.
Adapted by Anita Loos from her novel and directed by Howard Hawks, the film features several fun musical numbers including the iconic ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend’ which has inspired everything from Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ video to Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ performance at the 2024 Oscars!
Prepare to be dazzled!”
