Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is showing at the historic ByTowne Cinema in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, on Sunday, May 3 at 12 pm, as part of a Golden Age film series.
“Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell were just fantastic as the best friends travelling from America across to Paris. Lorelei (Monroe) and Dorothy (Russell) are just ‘Two Little Girls from Little Rock’, lounge singers on a transatlantic cruise… which is obviously going to be full of surprises and many amusing moments. Especially with the Olympic team on the same boat . . . and rich men who Lorelei is very much interested in.
It’s all about diamonds and rich men, for Lorelei at least. Dorothy takes the opposite approach to her best friend. Dorothy would love Lorelei to not look at a man’s bank balance when making choices on who to date and ultimately marry. But in the end do the diamonds and money really matter? Well as Lorelei says the money helps like a pretty girl will help a man make a decision.”
