A double-bill centennial tribute to Marilyn is coming to the historic Capri Theatre in Adelaide, Australia on Sunday, June 7, with an organ recital at 1:45 pm preceding Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at 2pm; and after a 20-minute interval, The Seven Year Itch follows at 3:50 pm.
“Diamonds may be forever… but icons are once in a century.
Join us as we celebrate the 100th birthday of Hollywood’s ultimate blonde bombshell, Marilyn Monroe, with a dazzling double feature on the big screen.
First, it’s the sparkling, show-stopping glamour of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, where Monroe’s Lorelei Lee teaches us all that diamonds are a girl’s best friend (and that pink satin never goes out of style). Then we turn up the heat with The Seven Year Itch, featuring that subway-grate scene — the white dress, the breeze, the moment that defined movie history.
From her comic timing to her vulnerability, from Technicolor musical numbers to Manhattan mischief, Marilyn remains one of cinema’s most enduring stars. A century on, she still glows on the big screen exactly as she was meant to.
So slip into something fabulous, gather your best girlfriends (or your best leading man), and celebrate 100 years of sparkle, sass and silver-screen magic.
Because some like it hot… but we prefer it on the Capri screen.”
Speaking of Marilyn’s other comedic masterpiece, Some Like It Hot is showing in two Australian cities on Sunday, June 14, at 4pm: at the Liberty Theatre, Canberra; and the Lieder Theatre in Gouldburn, New South Wales.
And finally, Some Like It Hot returns on June 20 and 22 at the Ritz Cinema in Sydney; and the Cameo Cinema, Classic Cinema and Lido Cinema in Victoria.
