Some Like It Hot gets an open-air screening in Rijeka on Tuesday, July 28 at 9:00 pm, hosted by Art Kino Croatia.
“As the final title of the summer program in Rijeka’s Benčić Art Quarter, we bring you Billy Wilder’s cult comedy Some Like It Hot (1959), on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the great Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe.
The plot follows Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry ( Jack Lemmon), two musicians who, after witnessing a mob showdown, are on the run from gangsters. To save themselves, they disguise themselves as women, take the names Josephine and Daphne, and join a female jazz band on tour in Florida. The situation becomes complicated when they both fall in love with the stunning singer Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), while Jerry is simultaneously courted by the persistent millionaire Osgood. Remember the legendary final line: Nobody’s perfect!”
This follows a screening of Marilyn’s ultimate summer movie – The Seven Year Itch (1955), also directed by Billy Wilder – from earlier this month.
