Marilyn’s ‘Queen Dress’ at Profiles in History

The gold lamé gown and cape worn by Marilyn when she was presented to Queen Elizabeth II at a royal screening of The Battle of River Plate in London’s Empire Theatre in 1956 will go under the hammer at Profiles in History’s Icons & Legends 120 sale on November 12-13, with an estimate of $60,000-$80,00. (You can read more about the famous meeting here.)

Other Marilyn-related items include a signed photo, and cheque; a costume sketch by Charles LeMaire; and a taupe silk hat worn by Marilyn in the wedding scene from How to Marry a Millionaire. The rarely-seen ‘tiger dress’ from the ‘Rachmaninoff scene’ in The Seven Year Itch is also listed; but in the photo its condition seems rather pristine considering its age. (I will update this post with any further information.)

UPDATE: The ‘tiger dress’ sold for $593,750; and the ‘queen dress’ sold for $293,400.
