Some Like It Hot is showing at Biograf Spegeln in Malmo, Sweden on Tuesday, June 9, at 5 pm. (‘Spegeln’ is the Swedish word for mirror, and the film’s title translates as ‘The Hottest Team.’)
“Powered by brilliant performances from Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, The Hottest Team is perhaps master director Billy Wilder’s funniest comedy. Because the script involved cross-dressing and homosexuality, the film was produced without the approval of the Production Code, the film industry’s then-code for self-censorship. Shortly thereafter, this code died out, thanks to an increased social tolerance for previously taboo subjects in film – not least fueled by The Hottest Team‘s success.”

Meanwhile, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is showing at Kino Pod Baranami in Krakow, Poland, on Wednesday, June 10, at 6pm.
“The fifth edition of our All-Time Movies series is underway, showcasing unforgettable classics of world cinema. The next screening will feature Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, a captivating 1950s musical starring the magnificent Marilyn Monroe, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Hollywood actress’s birth.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes tells the story of Lorelei (Monroe) and Dorothy (Jane Russell), who are still searching for happiness in love. Monroe’s character dreams of a wealthy man who will provide her with luxury and diamonds – as the film’s most famous song says, diamonds are every girl’s best friend. Her marriage plans are thrown into question when a private detective appears on board the luxury cruise ship, and a tiara disappears without a trace.
The screening of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes will be preceded by a lecture by film scholar Joanna Łuniewicz. During the screening, you can purchase the book Marilyn Monroe: All Faces of the Goddess by Katarzyna Czajka-Kominiarczuk. The project is co-financed by the City of Krakow.”
