‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ in Austria

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes gets an outdoor screening at Kino im Kesselhaus in Krems an der Donau, Austria on Friday, July 3, at 9:15 pm.

“The iconic musical comedy from the 1950s, restored in its classic style to celebrate Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday! On a ship voyage to Europe, New York showgirls Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw are shadowed by a detective hired by a millionaire whose son is engaged to Lorelei. While he easily gathers evidence of Lorelei’s alleged ‘infidelity’—a woman obsessed with all things material—Dorothy falls in love with him… Following the recipe of the drink that knocks the detective unconscious (‘equal parts Scotch, vodka, brandy, and gin’), the film also brings together seemingly incompatible colours during Marilyn Monroe’s dazzling performance of ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’: pink, red, purple, and orange. The result is something entirely new: Camp. ‘The most glamorous musical of our age’ (according to the trailer) celebrates Technicolor as part of a stunning Gesamtkunstwerk… (a total work of art)”
